Virtual learning is the learning that occurs outside the school premises and more into the online environment (Core education, 2013). This way students and teachers connect through multimedia sources (Virtual learning is mostly practiced by long distance students, who are not able to be physically present in school. Since 2020 there has been an increase of students doing online learning due to the pandemic and since this been the most widely used form of education, it is important to ensure that online schooling is available, effective and efficient. Some of the key factors for making online learning effective include, knowing your online platform. Most educational facilities offer online learning platforms, so before you begin teaching, you should familiarize yourself with the platform being used. Make sure to know and understand the functionalities of these platforms. A good example being zoom. Before teachers engage with their students, they should be fully aware of how the site works.
Another way of enhancing effective online learning is through having shorter content. Learning at home can be exceedingly difficult due to so many factors. There can be a lot of distraction from siblings, family members, music and video games. This causes students to pay little focus in whatever is being taught. A way to ensure this is not the case is by making short and fun classwork for the students. This way they are now able to be more cooperative and enjoy their classes more. Setting clear communication goals is another way. This is an important aspect since students can understand what it is that needs to be done, how and why. For effective online learning, there must be clear set of instructions and communicate then clearly.
Another key factor for making sure that online learning is effective is by making sure your learning environment is conducive enough for learning. This applies for both teachers and students. Our minds get easily distracted and especially in a home setting. To make sure this does not happen, one must find a quiet, secluded area in your home with limited noise and movement. Also try avoiding having other gadgets like your phone with you during class. This helps improve concentration. Another way to make this happen especially for teachers, is by ensuring the area where you are recording is well light and you are visible. When doing a presentation, recording or video you must put the light source being your head and putting up the camera in a way that it cuts the top of your head. This way everyone can get a good view of what is being taught.
Providing different learning options is another way of enhancing effective online learning. Having all your kids get into video conferences is great but not all those children are able to participate. Some children, you find out that their internet cannot support video streaming. This can be due to many technical issues that occur with the gadgets they use. In such situations one should find a way to and make sure no one is missing out. There should be more than one way to ensure that all students are able to participate and complete assignment by figuring out what works best for them. With online learning this too can be practiced by giving work in pairs or groups. This helps them interact with their fellow classmates.
Another way to enhance effectiveness is through mixing up the lessons. This is an important way of keeping the class interesting. Engaging students online is by frequently changing what they do. You can star by giving a short lecture, then ask students to give their feedbacks, giving them small breaks in between the session and sending them in search resources to back up their ideas. Providing office hours is another way for effect online learning (Poll Everywhere, 2020). This is also important because it enables students to have a one on one with the teacher and air out their concerns. This is especially more reliable for introvert students who find it difficult to engage when others are in the classroom. This way they feel secure talk about their challenges.

Transitioning from face to face to online has not been easy especially for the teachers. They have however found a way to transition from face to face to online learning smoothly. Some ways to achieve this is through a lot of initial planning (Brightspace community, 2018). Before doing anything else, one must have their whole course planned, prepared and created to enhance consistency and maximize the learning experience. One must reevaluate their current structure starting from the course’s outline, objectives and modules. Then gather resources and contents that you would want to use for the course. This may include videos, articles, textbooks and websites. Maintaining learner engagement is another way teacher have used to successfully transition from face to face to online. They are finding ways to keep interaction and participation good. Just because there has been that change from a classroom environment to online does not mean you must give things up. Think of was done in the classroom and try using it to maintain student interaction online.
