Lowery’s idea to seek fairness and truth in the media environment is the only way to
achieve moral clarity and provide the consumers with the right information away from fake
news. The rampant cases of fake news have polluted that media environment such that it is
not hard to know what to believe. Lowery’s ideas are geared at providing a solution to the
challenges in achieving media fairness and truth analysis. In effort to achieve reliable media
sources, Lowery provides insight into the impartial “object journalism” surrounding the media
world governed by the journalist (Lowery 2). If any change is to be achieved having a reliable
media platform, journalists have a primary take to help attain that goal. Thus, there is much input
required to convince the journalists on the importance of their input in getting us back to a more
reliable media platform. In this case, the approach to achieve this isreforming the journalists’ take
and feeding them with the sense of “moral clarity.” Since there is a channel involved in
collecting the data and publishing it, there are other stakeholders in this process who need to be
involved. Among them are the editors and publishers who need to be engaged to ensure they
help enforce the right measures towards achieving clarity in the media. Journalists can be true
and fair for the system is not fully damaged but it needs to be scrutinized to eliminate the biased
elements.
People need to identify reliable sources to ensure that they do not fall into the trap even
when fake news is released. Information is power and that has been why even when fake news is
released, many people end up being trapped by the false news. The effects of fake have been felt
largely and it is high time change is made to start addressing the issues with the right will. The
same way people have been keen and always updated, it is the same way they should be
informed to identify what is reliable and fake from the media. Some of the sources indeed look
credible but there are others that even from their look, they are not reliable. In that case,
whenever a loophole is released, it should be filled immediately to prevent it from worsening.
Among the ways that Lowery has proposed to achieve fairness and truth in the media is having
everyone involved in achieving media clarity. It means that consumers to producers should be
involved in the process as well as journalists to the public. In this case, journalists will be
involved in maintaining a sense of moral clarity when they are reporting. On the other hand,
consumers would be involved in demanding fair and true reports (Lowery 2). Through this, the
media will truly achieve credible and reliable information. All parties that are the journalists and
the audience should show their concern in getting reliable information. It would not be possible
to have this achieved when one of the parties entertains fake news. When all parties are part and
parcel in fighting for reliable sources, that will close any room for those who spread fake
news. Journalist to public approach will mean that as journalists collect information, they first
ensure that their sources of information are first reliable. Through that, if the form of the sources
where the information is gathered from is valid, there will be no doubt the information will be fit
for use. Unreliable sources have all the possibilities of having biased information and that is the
reason what they need to be resisted at all costs. Although a journalist might not intend to send
fake news, his or her source might be the biggest challenge. Whenever the source is fraudulent, it
means all that will be elaborated further will be grounded on a false basis. Thus, the journalists
as well need to ensure their source of information is valid and authentic before they build
any information from them.
Additionally, Lowery provides a consumer-to-producer approach that can help combat the spread
of fake news. The main reason why the journalists produce is because there are consumers who
are ready for their final products or services(Lowery 3). It implies that if there were no audience,
the journalists would not be producing. Journalism is like any other business where a business
survives because there are ready consumers to use their products and services. Thus, if there are
no customers, the business collapses. In that case, if the audience were stricken with the
information they want, the journalists would not have any opportunity other than adjusting to
meet the audience standards. The audience needs to set their bar and definitely, the journalists
will have to produce what the consumers want. With the advancements in information
technology, the audience has a wide pool to choose from as their source of information.
Therefore, for the journalists to remain relevant, they would always meet the standards of the
audience. Majority of the audience seems to be entertaining fake news and are not aware of what
they want, they are the main reason why fake news continues to circulate. Elsewhere, when the
fake news is released, those who get to suffer most is the audience. Thus, the solution would be
best achieved if the audience rebukes fake news and always scrutinizes information, not just
believing any news.
Elsewhere, Lowery provides more insight into how journalists can achieve truth and fairness in
the media and through a process he refers to “neutral objective journalism”(Lowery 3). In his
argument, Lowery provides that each process of journalism lies biases. Thus, before the
journalist covers a particular story, they need to scrutinize it and identify any form of biasness
because every event is covered for a purpose. Thus, it is important to identify if the purpose of
the article covered emphasized much on a particular area. On the other hand, the audience has all
the chances and ability to identify and distinguish which information to believe and trust.
One way the audience can distinguish fake news from authentic news is by comparing various
sources of information. Since the internet can provide various sources discussing a particular
topic, the audience can be relating the sources to help ensure that there is clarity to the
information discussed by a particular source. It is possible when the audience is interested in a
particular topic to compare severally from different sources and assure that whatever was
compared provides solid and reliable information. Comparing the sources gives a clear picture
that is not biased because people analyze issues differently. The biasness that was found on a
particular source compared with the other two sources provides a precise picture of what it is all
about. News cannot be objective yet its origin was biased and it aimed to appease and sell to the
predominating audience.
In most cases, journalists fall into the trap of proving biasness information not on their consent
but based on failing to pay attention to the other aspect of objectivity that is just as important. In
effort of the journalist to appear balance after identifying their mistake, they offer
equal opportunity for opposing viewpoints. Journalists would offer this chance to the affected
side to offer their opinion even when they are not on the same level. Journalism is also aimed at
protecting the brand and when journalists fall into the trap of objectivity, they try all means to
cover the opposed side. In this case, the issue is not settled rather, it worsens. The reason is that
when the opposed side is given the opportunity to justify themselves, they fight the other side
thus being biased as well. Thus, to avoid all the drummer and being on the right side, it is
advised that the journalist need to be keen with whatever they fed people.
Creating fairness and trusted media is possible only if every party is ready to do the right thing.

to stop them from breaking the rules. The media should not be misused for the privilege is
provided for people to share without any challenges. Instead, peoples should be enjoying the
chance to share information anywhere, anytime without challenges. Since the damage has

an immediate effect, fairness and trust in the media would be achieved.
