ITEC 6220 Ethical Hacking Research Paper

 

You will work as a group  or alone for the Research Project in Ethical Hacking issues.

Everyone in the class will contribute to this group project. The project will be in 4 parts. Submit all 4 parts in the drop box for Research Paper. If you have a group, please sign up for a group using the GROUPs tool.

 

Part #1– Annotated Bibliography (I Suggest each person in the group find at least a couple of references for the AB – Submit Part #1 in one document)

 

The first portion is to research articles and scholarly journal articles on ethical hacking topics that you are interested in. Your topic can be related to anything in the ethical hacking or penetration testing field. These articles will be the foundation of your research. You will complete an annotated bibliography of the articles you find.  Please see reference material from the embedded librarian on annotated bibliographies.  Include at least 10 – 15 sources.

The annotated bibliography should give you an idea of what is already available.  Research documents through Galileo (see the D2L homepage for the current password)or Google Scholar to search for peer reviewed journal articles that are appropriate for your topic.

 

You may also want to use a citation manager, i.e., Zotero to help you manage your bibliography references. It will help you keep all of your papers organized.

Part #2 – Introduction/Problem Statement

 

Explain what the topic is an why it’s important  to research it.

 

Introduction

• Background on the topic (cite sources)
• This should include the general subject matter
• Introduces the reader to background information leading up to the problem statement.

 

Problem Statement

• This is a brief description of the proposed area of study
  • Include at least two sentences
• Should include
  • A clear statement that the problem exists,
  • Evidence that supports the existence of the problem
  • Evidence of an existing trend that has led to the problem
  • Definitions of major concepts and terms
  • Clear description of the setting
  • Probable causes related to the problem

Part #3 – Literature Review

 

Write a review of existing and related literature to create relevant understanding of what has been published in the field so far. Your literature review will come from the articles you read in Part #1. You will also use APA citation format for citing your journals and articles. You may use a few articles that are older than 3 years, but the majority of your references should be at dated less than 3 years, this keeps your research current. The literature review should be approximately  can be several pages long.  Please include at least 1-2 pages

 

Part #4  – Methodology

 

How you would conduct the study, if you actually completed it.  Are you thinking of a qualitative, quantitative study? Why?   Example: Interviews are qualitative and surveys and questionnaires with scales are quantitative. The methodology should be at least 1 page. Include why you are selecting your methodology and use at least one citation to support your selection of methodology.

NOTE: This is the last assignment, you will not actually complete the research.  This is called a research proposal.

• The first page should be a title page that contains: “your name”, “ITEC 6220, Spring 2020”, “Research Paper”, the topic you chose, and the date. If you are in a group, put all of the group members names on the title page.

 

• The overall format of the paper (each assignment) is as follows:
• All margins at 1 inch;
• Use the Times New Roman 12-pt. font;
• Double space the essay;
• Page numbers in the lower right corner;
• The title page is page “0” and the page number does not print on the title page.
