Mission	It is known to the members of the department, both students and faculty, that there exist within the department two main ‘parties’ which share a never-ending dialogue (if not an ‘argument’ at times): the first calls for reviving the traditional methods of studying Arabic language and literature; while the second calls for what it sees as a ‘fresher’ approach to reading Arabic and its literatures through the claims of modern and contemporary linguistics and criticism. The students are always invited to participate in this dialogue, as the department ensures to organize open lectures and seminars on regular basis, so that the students may get exposed to different approaches and opinions, and be given the chance to share their own.

Vision	Some modules are traditional in conception, and aim to provide a basic understanding of philosophical problems as they are usually taught and discussed. Others are innovatory: they aim to break new ground , offering a fresh approach, and bring new problems under philosophical scrutiny.
Mission	Thus, being able to think criticaly, having good analytical skills, being an effective communicator these are the sorts of skills that most good managers would be expected to have. I think employers are beginning to ask, where are we going to find these skills?
Objectives	The philosophy Department consists currently of five permanent staff and hopes to increase staff in the coming future. The Department has been committed from the start to fostering a wide varity of philosophical approaches, and to developing links between philosophy and other disciplens. We offer a wide range of courses for undergraduates , post-graduates and doctoral research stududents. A wide varity of philosophical viewpoints are represented in the department. Here are just some of those interests: – Islamic philosophy, Modern and Contemporary Arab thought , Critical theory, Philosophical Hermeneutics. – Classical philosophical questions about existence, knowledge and language. – Issues in moral and political philosophy. The varity of our modules and courses reflects this diversity.
