We did want a French Algeria either

Nor of a France that drowns its Natives in the Seine [Reference to October 17^th, 1961, when hundred of Algerian peaceful demonstrators were killed, and their bodies floated down the Seine,  by the police headed by Maurice Papon, the chief of police who was also responsible for rounding up hundred of Jewish French people who were then sent to German death camps during WWII]

Yet, I remember! The FLN (Algerian freedom fighters) with panic and hatred

Protector of a just cause with Manichaean methods

Used to cut off the noses of those who refused to fight

Disfigured because neutrality makes you a foreigner

All the French were not men of the machine

Patricians of death, avenger of Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, former colonies that gained independence in the ‘50s)

We wished for Algerians what we wanted for ourselves 10 years prior

For ourselves, liberation of human dignity
We were not all a Jean Moulin (from French résistance during WWII)

But we also weren’t people who didn’t give a damn
